We’ve all done it before. You’ve walked into a room, your outfit is on point, hair is great and you have a little skip in your step.
As you walk through the door you’re playing a song in your head to match your confidence.
You might not know it, but you just discovered your theme song.
The idea of music playing as you walk into a room is something out of a movie or just another WWE match. But, in life, you should have a theme song and I’m here to tell you why.
Lately, podcasts have been my thing. Especially Daniel DiPiazza’s “Rich20Something” podcast.
There was one podcast that struck a chord with me.
This is the podcast where I got my inspiration for this blog about choosing your theme song.
In this interview, his guest talked about choosing a theme song that he uses for his public speaking appearances and how he sometimes uses that same song to wake him up in the morning.
So, with that being said, let’s talk about theme songs.
Now, I’m not advocating that you walk around in public 80s style with a boom box on your shoulder, blaring your favorite song everywhere that you go.
What I am saying is that music has the power to pump people up.
I personally think that music is the most relatable thing on this planet. Breakup – there’s a song for that and Taylor Swift likely wrote it. Are you happy? There’s a song for that. Are you so mad you’re seeing red? Yep – you guessed it, there’s a tune for that, too.
Music has the power to connect people on a higher level than just agreement. When people listen to music they feel empowered, they feel like someone gets them and sometimes they feel like the song was written for them.
Music is awesome – it’s that simple.
That’s why, whether you realize it or not, everyone has a theme song. It’s your song that plays in your head when you walk into a big meeting, the song that plays in your head when you’re trying to run that last mile or even that song you play when you just can’t gather up the gumption to get out of bed.
Today, I’m asking you to pick your theme song and rock that song like there’s no tomorrow.
Use it as a motivator – as a reason to get out of bed. Fast, slow or even techno, use music as your motivator. Pick the song that embodies your spirit and be awesome. Life isn’t always a movie, but sometimes you can make it feel like one.
My theme song would be “Empire State of Mind” with Jay Z and Alicia Keys. Even though I’m from Pittsburgh, I think this song embodies the mindset that every entrepreneur should have and that is to have grit and work your behind off to make your dreams a reality.
“There’s nothing you can’t do…” This is my favorite lyric and one that totally encapsulates the essence of a go-getter. Limits are created from a lack of self-confidence and are barriers that we’ve created for ourselves.
What would your theme song be? Leave me a comment. I’d love to hear!
